The volume is organized in three main sections: in the first Norbert Straumann gives the general description of the gravitational lensing phenomenon in different specific physical and astrophysical contexts. In the second one Philippe Jetzer treats the dark matter problem on Galactic scale and analyses the specific phenomenon of the gravitational microlensing. In the third sector Jean Kaplan introduces the new technique of the pixel lensing, a powerful tool to detect microlensing events in the nearby Andromeda galaxy where it is not possible to resolve the single sources.
